Why I Kept My Blog a Secret

Aside from the names of boys that I’ve liked and a few embarrassing stories, I don’t really have any major secrets. This is why some of my classmates and friends were surprised to discover that I ran a blog after reading a feature of P31beauty on our high school newspaper only two months ago. My friend Brandy often teases me that I’ve been living the Hannah Montana double life- the best of both worlds, haha!

The transition from middle school to high school is an awkward time in most teens’ life. Since high school is so vast, I think most freshmen initially struggle to find their place. Some attempt to fit in by being like everyone else, while others bravely express their individuality. I started P31beauty the summer I transitioned from a private Christian middle school to a public high school. Wearing skirts and dresses all the time at school definitely screamed THIS GIRL IS DIFFERENT. I would get questions from other students my freshman year like “Do you ever wear pants?” or “Why do you wear skirts all the time?” My response would never be confident. I was scared that they would perceive me as weird. Like everyone else, I wanted to fit in. Being vocal about my blog would make me stand out even more. So, I kept it a secret from everyone save my parents and brother. In tenth and eleventh grade, only my closest friends knew about P31beauty and even then, I never really openly talked about it. It was not until this year that I became more comfortable with people knowing that I fashion blogged.

To be honest, I wish that I had been more open about my blog to my family and friends. You know how I was scared of them perceiving me as some strange individual? I was so wrong. My family, friends, and classmates are my biggest supporters! When they found out about my blog, they were nothing but supportive and excited. Their support boosted my confidence about being a blogger and encouraged me to continue doing it. If you are currently in the same position that I was in and are hesitant to let friends and family know about your blog, I encourage you to be open about it! You’ll see that they will be your biggest supporters.

I just wanted to thank all of my friends and family who have supported my blog- you know who you are! Also, thank you to all of you readers for continuing to read my posts. This blog wouldn’t be a blog without you!

  • Cheers to doing what you love, even if you’re not sure how others will perceive it! So happy to hear all your family and friends ended up being excited and supportive. That’s the way it should be. ๐Ÿ™‚ Love your outfit – those earrings are to die for!

    • Thanks Jenn! That’s really sweet of you. I love your blog! Thanks so much for visiting mine ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Gabriela Cerdas

I totally understand you! Even though Iยดm way older than you I can relate to how nerve racking it is to “put yourself” outhere!

  • Kari Jonard

I definitely understand where you are coming from. I didn’t keep my blog a secret but I also didn’t post anything personal on it. All I did was DIYs, cooking, finance advice. Then I started adding a bit of personal information a little at a time and stopped sharing it with family. I figure for those I know who already know the site, they can look around but I don’t need to hang it right in front of their faces.

    • That makes sense, Kari! Thank you for reading my post ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Only a few of my closest friends know about my blog. I’m so happy all your friends and family were encouraging and supportive! Maybe I’ll be brave enough one day ๐Ÿ™‚
Love the detail on your shirt!

    • Thank you Stephanie!! It definitely takes time to open up about something as personal as a blog. I wish you all the luck ๐Ÿ™‚

  • While i absolutely adore this look…let’s talk about those earrings! To die for!

Aw I can understand your need to keep it a secret. I was the same way. I felt somewhat vulnerable with my blog so I didn’t want to talk about it because I didn’t want any criticism. But eventually I realized how supportive everyone was, just like you did. Yay!

    • Yay! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post! I had no idea that a lot of other bloggers related to me. This is what I love so much about blogging. People from different places are able to connect and relate with one another. <3

  • I didn’t tell anyone in the few months either. So I totally understand that! Your blog looks amazing though, now you can tell everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Marion Collins

Glad you are getting a lot of support. I enjoy your blog. Thanks for sharing this post. I love your outfit.

    • Thank you so much for your continued support, Marion! You are always so sweet ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I kept my blog a secret until I accidentally pinned something to the wrong Pinterest account. Whoosps! My secret was out. I totally get it! Your blog is lovely though. You should own the fact that you have one!

    • Thank you Kendel! I love your blog as well <3

  • Hannah Palamara

I totally understand- I kept my blog a secret for the first year because i was nervous what my friends and family would think!

  • I understand completely! My blog is still a secret to my extended family. But my mother, father, sister, and my brother in law all know. They support me a lot so I am glad they know.

  • I love your blog! I’ve only just discovered you but I really enjoy it! Looking for more Christian bloggers as I look to ad more Faith based content to my blog so yours was such a delight to come by! And oh, I definitely enjoy your OUTFITS!. #Skirtsanddressesallday
